From julie at cosmic.org.uk Wed Feb 6 13:27:03 2008 From: julie at cosmic.org.uk (Julie Harris) Date: Wed, 6 Feb 2008 13:27:03 -0000 Subject: [Icthubsw] Evaluation of Network Meetings - role of Regional ICT Champion Message-ID: Dear all Please see below an email from Paul Webster regarding evaluation of the role of Regional ICT Champion in the context of the SW ICT group meetings (Network Meeting in his email). As you will all be aware by now, the role of organising and running the meetings has been held by Rupert Daniels from BSWN, as agreed as part of his thematic role for the IDP in the region. And so my role as Regional Champion has been to support these meetings and provide regular input and updates to the group and support the delivery of the workplan, events, etc. Please could I ask you to complete the survey with this SW region-specific structure in mind. If you have any questions then please do let me know. I have found these to be a very important part of your work (as I hope you have) in bringing a focus onto your regional work. Informal feedback at these meetings seems to suggest likewise from participants, however to capture this more formally the ICT Hub External Evaluation team have put together a short on-line survey. This needs to be completed by as many people as possible who have attended these meetings, or who have been invited to attend these meetings. As the meeting attendance is often only a few people (not a bad thing in its self) it is important that many - if not all attendees complete the survey. So, please can you email out the paragraphs shown below and the link to the survey to all your meeting contacts not just those who have attended regularly, but the ones who couldn't make it as well. Can you also remind people at the next meeting or when you see them elsewhere to complete this. >>>>> ICT Hub programme: Regional Network Meeting Evaluation Almost a year ago the ICT Hub commissioned ICT Champions to work in each region. Among their tasks was organising regional meetings quarterly or bi-monthly. The purpose of these was to develop communication between all those involved in promoting or developing ICT within the voluntary sector in the region, and to help ensure that ICT concerns are taken into account in regional plans. Since you have attended, or been invited to attend these meetings, we are keen to know what you think about them. Please take a few minutes to answer as many of the questions in the survey as you feel able. The link to the survey is http://www.paulticher.com/research/icthubregionalnetwork.htm When you click 'Submit', your answers will be sent anonymously to the independent evaluation team. If you would like a copy of their report when it is produced, or if you have any difficulty with the questionnaire, please e-mail paul at paulticher.com Thank you for your time >>>>> ________________________________________________ Paul Webster Regional ICT Hub Infrastructure Support A : NAVCA, The Tower, 2 Furnival Square, Sheffield, S1 4QL T : 0114 289 3977 (DD) F : 0114 278 7004 W : (ICT Hub) www.icthub.org.uk < http://www.icthub.org.uk/> B : http://watfordgap.wordpress.com < http://watfordgap.wordpress.com/> E : paul.webster at navca.org.uk < mailto:paul.webster at navca.org.uk> ________________________________________________ The ICT Hub is a consortium of voluntary sector organisations who have come together to plan and deliver a co-ordinated framework of ICT guidance, good practice, advice and support for voluntary and community organisations, accessible at a local level. Julie -----Original Message----- From: tom [mailto:tombrough at blueyonder.co.uk] Sent: 15 February 2008 22:07 To: julie at cosmic.org.uk Subject: Voluntary Sector and Open Source Software Options Hi Julie, Let me introduce myself. My name is Tom Brough, and I am a member of the Local GNU/Linux Users Group known as the Devon & Cornwall GNU Linux Groups. GNU/Linux is the "flagship" FLOSS (Free Libre Open Source Software) product that comprises of many. You may or may not be aware that the Free Software Movement (in the form of the Free Software Foundation) was formed nearly 25 Years ago by Richard Stallman, but I digress. The D.C.G.L.U.G are mostly like minded individuals who are into using GNU / Linux and GNU Licensed applications. The main purpose of the group is as a self help group for people of all ages and ICT abilities to learn off each other and provide support to those using or migrating or even just thinking of using "free*" software. While not all members will be interested in voluntary work, we are interested in supporting and promoting the use of GNU/Linux and Free Software, and collectively are very knowledgeable on the subject. Perhaps we could provide members for a Q&A session to talk with your partners in the voluntary sector, demonstrate some free software options or simply offer our website http://www.dcglug.org.uk/ as a contact point to any voluntary sector interested in exploring the use of Free Software in their organisation ? Please don't hesitate to email me if you have further questions, ideas or suggestions. Tom. * free as in free speech rather than free as in beer.
