Please let me know what you think. We are on a very tight schedule, so can you let me have any comments by 19th September. We are also working with LASA and Media Trust to streamline and simplify the online forums. This means we will be getting rid of the regional forums as they are currently underused. There will be a general forum section which anyone can post in, so if the situation arises that there is a specific issue to your region then that will be the place to post. I'd also be grateful if you could let me have any comments or suggestions about the website, and anything you can think of to help improve how the website can assist you in your work. It was agreed earlier in the summer that the interest in development of e-learning solutions (as expressed by many organisations) was a good focus for a joint meeting at which knowledge-sharing, discussion and presentation of case studies would stimulate interest and potentially lead to some collaborative working within the region to develop sector-focussed e-learning solutions. So far the plans for the event include : - Date : Friday 12th October 2007 - Venue : the Create Centre, Bristol (Smeaton Road,BRISTOL, BS1 6XN). Room 2A - with thanks to Voscur for hosting this event. - Timing : starting with networking from 11.30am and then lunch and presentations/discussion from 1pm (until 3pm) - Presentations - Chris Gaine from Single Parent Network - experiences of developing a Moodle site - Ian Dunn from Learning Curve (Swindon) - experiences of developing a Moodle site - Exeter CVS - Pea-Pods system a CMS-driven portal for learning support (awaiting confirmation) I am still inviting interest from any other organisation with experience in e-learning to come along so please encourage anyone you know to get in touch with me as soon as possible. I have also invited along two other regional champions with an interest in e-learning solutions. (East Midlands and Yorkshire). I have invited examples of good practice from around the UK which can be demonstrated, as well as any current research or background to the discussions which I can circulate to attendees in advance. Again, if you know of anyone who might be able to participate in this preparatory work then please do ask them to contact me. Please let me know if you would like any other specific items covered by the agenda for this meeting. In my never ending quest to bring together good examples of cross-sector working (namely corporate and voluntary), I'd be really grateful if you could let me know of any such examples in your region. In an effort to make this as easy as possible, I attach a pro forma to complete and return (I think this makes it easier). I'm keen to get some regional input into this piece of work so your contributions would be invaluable. These case studies will be used at events, feature in hub bulletins and on the website. If sufficient case studies are received, I'd like to create a publication similar to the New Media Case Studies. Anyway, please contact me if you have any questions and many thanks in advance. This mailing is being sent out to those who attended the training and standards event on 17th July and those who were interested but couldn't make it on that day. Firstly, thanks to everyone who came along to NCVO and all who contributed via Survey Monkey. If you haven't already seen the report from the day it can be downloaded from http://www.lasa.org.uk/circuitriders/training.shtml Following the day, we have looked at the information and opinions gathered and have come up with following immediate plan of action: * Formation and initial meeting in November of a working group to oversee and advise on progress * Lasa to formulate a draft "logic model" to outline objectives, outcomes, outputs and indicators. This is based on the outcomes of the scenarios exercise carried out on the 17th July. * Updating and issuing of Principles for Circuit Riders to work to * Updating and reworking of benchmark ICT Standards for VCS organisations (currently being commissioned) This will provide us with a basis for formulating the skill set necessary to be an effective circuit rider and to give a quality service to our clients. In turn this will lead to the formulation of appropriate training. The group will meet initially on November 8th at Lasa to discuss the various issues mentioned above. We plan to start at around 12.30 with lunch and work through the afternoon. An outline draft agenda for the meeting is: * Roles and responsibilities (Lasa) * Role of the working group * Working on draft logic model * Working on programmatic elements: principles and standards proposals We currently envisage that the group will then operate on a virtual, online basis. If you are interested in being part of the working group, please email me at iruneckles at lasa.org.uk We will be able to pay necessary expenses to enable you to attend the meeting. We look forward to hearing from you and thanks for your interest and input. Even if you feel that you are unable to commit to the group, we will obviously keep you and the wider Circuit Rider community informed.
