Subject: OPSI's BarcampPOIR8
The Office of Public Sector information is sponsoring a BarCamp about
the development of a re-use request service for Public Sector
Information.
A BarCamp, sometimes called an “unconference”, is an event which the
participants organise themselves. The BarCamp for the re-use request
service will be on Saturday 12th January 2008, at the Spey & Ness
Rooms, City Inn, 30 John Islip Street, Westminster, London. All people
need to do to come is log on to the Wiki, add their names and shape
the agenda: http://barcamp.org/BarCampPOIR8
Speaking about the event, John Sheridan said, “we’ve opted for a
BarCamp format - sometimes called an “unconference” - as the most
open, participative and democratic way to engage with potential re-
users of public sector information. OPSI has arranged the venue (Spey
& Ness Rooms, City Inn, 30 John Islip Street, Westminster, London) and
an outline agenda - but really we would like the re-user community to
shape the day as part of shaping this new and exciting public service.”
Background notes
· The creation of a re-use request service by OPSI was
recommended by Tom Steinberg and Ed Mayo, in The Power of Information
Review, published in June 2007 and agreed by Ministers in the
government response presented to Parliament later that month.
· A BarCamp <http://barcamp.org> is an ad-hoc gathering born
from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.
It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from
participants.
Please feel free to publicise this events and forward to those who may
be interested in participating to help steer the development of this
initiative.
kind regards
