 Dear Momentum Group Member,

 Barbara Janke the Council Leader sent out the below email earlier
today to all council staff. It sums up very articulately where we are
now, which is far from giving up.

 This is a reminder that there will be a Momentum Group meeting at
Watershed from 5.30 - 6.30 tomorrow.

 Come along to hear exactly what took place in London yesterday, to
regroup and refocus on taking forward Bristol's Digital Strategy.

 Dear All,

 As you will be aware, Connecting Bristol was a regional winner and
national finalist in the Government's Digital Challenge competition.

 I was in London yesterday with the bid team to hear the Minister,
Angela Smith MP, announce the final winner.

 Many of you tuned into the live webcast so will already know that
Bristol was pipped at the post by Sunderland City Council.

 Whilst this is extremely disappointing for the team, the Council and
the City, I remain hugely impressed by the energy and commitment that
Connecting Bristol has generated.

 The judges particularly noted the innovation and creativity of
Bristol's bid. These are two of the City's greatest strengths and I am
certain that despite yesterday's setback, the momentum that has been
created through the bid will continue to grow.

 Yesterday, the Minister also announced a 'Runners-up Fund' of £2
million. This, along with resources that are already allocated in the
Council's Medium Term Financial Plan, will enable us to take forward
many of the ideas contained in the Connecting Bristol bid. This will
play an important role in transforming Council services and in
realising our vision for the future of Bristol.

 The team is in good heart and enthusiastic to move forward.

 So, let's not feel too disappointed but instead rise to the challenge
of becoming a truly modern, connected digital city and council.
